Analysis of Record Label

A record label is a brand associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. In some cases, a record label is also a publishing company that manages brands and trademarks, coordinates the production, distribution, promotion and more. Furthermore, talent scouting and developing new artists are also conducted within record labels whereby contracts are then maintained with the recording artists and their managers.

Jerry Folk is signed under his own independent record label (also referred as "indie label"), Folkestad Recordings. This form of record label operates without the funding of major record labels and many establishing artists begin their careers on independent labels. This is a popular option for artists like Folk as independent labels are considered more artist-friendly considering that they typically offer artists a higher profit-share agreement in comparison to larger record labels.

The term indie label can also be used to refer to independent labels which releases non-mainstream music. Folkestad Recordings falls into the criteria of an indie label as Folk experiments with a variety of genres which are considered as challenging.

With Folk establishing as an artist and exclusively publishing his work on music streaming services such as, Spotify and SoundCloud, signing to his own independent label is a suited option. This gives him more freedom to produce and publish the music he desires, nevertheless, the young artist is still carving his niche sound.
