Forms of Music Videos

There are different forms of music videos. To get an idea of what kind of video I would like to create, I looked at many videos of these three forms. Below are example of these music videos.


Narrative

A video that features a visual story that is easy to follow. The lyrics are often reflected within the story and there is normally a relationship between the narrative and the song.

This suicide prevention music video tells a powerful story of a young boy who isn't accepted for his sexuality

Concept

A video that is usually based around a single idea or concept and are typically unusual which tends to draw the audience in. They often have no storyline and sometimes no relation to the lyrics or music itself.

This music video follows the concept of the artist isolated and in her own world

Performance

A video which contains shots of the artist(s) performing throughout the video. They often include many close-up shots of the artist which is generally demanded by record labels in order to establish/reinforce the artist's image.

This music video follows the artist on tour and behind the scenes of his music production
