Shot Size Analysis

After constructing the shot list for our music video, I decided to refer back to my RMA research where analysis was implemented to reveal the percentage of the different shot sizes in a music video from our chosen genre. I completed this same analysis for our music video:

Total time = 3:29
Extreme long shot = 0:02
Long shot = 0:54 
Medium long shot = 0:36
Medium shot = 0:49
Medium close-up = 1:02 
Close-up = 0:06

A pie chart was constructed below by converting the duration of the different shots types into percentages. It can be concluded that medium close-up shots are used for over a quarter of the video and long shots are used for just less than a quarter, followed by medium shots and medium long shots.

RMA Analysis:

Total time = 04:20

Close-up shot = 01:21

Medium close-up shot = 1:31

Medium shot = 0:51

Long shot = 0:37

This can be compared to an existing music video from the dance genre where close-up shots are used for more than half of the music video and medium close-up shots are used for just less than a quarter, followed by medium shots and long shots.

Conclusion:

The analysis of shot sizes in our music video show a particularly even spread of medium close-up shots, medium shots, medium long shots and long shots due to the presentation of a dance routine. However, the analysis from the existing music video suggests close-up and medium close-up shots need to utilised with a larger proportion in our music video to enhance the star image.
