Recce Shots

Recce Shots refer to visiting a potential filming location before the production to determine its suitability for shooting, including access to necessary facilities and assessment of any potential lighting or sound issues.

Projector Shots

In our case, we wanted to test the outcome of the shots of the artist lip-synching in front of projected images as this is a significant part of our music video. Firstly we experimented with different shot sizes to find the most appealing shot size for these shots. Secondly, we explored different visuals to have projected onto the artist:

We explored two types of coloured visuals, coloured ink in water and coloured kaleidoscope, both of which offset an interesting visual effect. We decided to use a visual with movement rather than a still visual to enhance the effect. This will be done by projecting a video of our chosen visual onto a plain white background with the artist in the centre of the shot. Our final choice of visual is the coloured ink in water as we concluded the effect is similar to the powdered paint which will be used in our ancillary tasks, therefore, it reinforces the link between our three media products.

We encountered an issue with connecting our MacBook computers to the cable linked to the projector. This was resolved by using a different laptop with a VGA port, however, for our production we will purchase a DisplayPort to VGA Adapter.

Bedroom Shots

A shot was taken from each corner of the room and these shots were shown to our focus group to choose which looks the most appealing. It is important that we select an area of the  room to base the filming so additional lighting and other equipment can be set up behind the camera, furthermore this reinforces continuity within the shots.

Focus Group:
  • Member 1 - 3
  • Member 2 - 3
  • Member 3 - 1
  • Member 4 - 2
As the majority of our focus group chose Area 3 as the most appealing shot, we will base our filming in this area of the room.
