Props Research

From the research of existing music videos from the dance genre, the use of props were very limited. However, a common prop identified was alcoholic drinks. This is because dance music is generally listened to in clubs where alcohol is typically consumed.

Since the concept of our music video focuses on the dancing of the characters, the props are only used to add realism to the setting and to create a particular atmosphere for the viewers.

Dance Bags

Members of the cast will have a dance bag which would generally include a water bottle, mobile phone and a change of clothes. The use of this prop adds realism to the setting and makes the video look less staged overall as dance bags are generally brought to dance practise by dancers to store their belongings.

Fluorescent Coloured Lighting

Fluorescent coloured lighting is a common convention used in music videos from the dance genre. This convention will also be used in our music video, particularly in the shots of the protagonist lip synching and at home. This specific lighting creates an edgy modern look which attracts our target audience of young people. This lighting is also associated with clubbing which further attracts an audience of young people who typically go to clubs.
